Plant for the Monarch Butterflies! Monarch Butterflies will ONLY use the Milkweed plant for EVERY stage of their life! They depend on this important plant to lay their eggs, their caterpillars eat only milkweed, they form their chrysalis on milkweed, and adult butterflies drink the nectar from the milkweed flower. Other pollinators enjoy this flower as well!
Showy Milkweed is the native variety of Milkweed to Oregon, and we cannot ship these seeds to another state. If you live outside Oregon, please find the Milkweed variety native to your state :)

Showy Milkweed Seeds
For Spring Planting: Milkweed seeds can be very slow to germinate and do take some time and patience. For best results and to speed up the germination process, place the seeds between damp paper towels, sealed in a bag, in the refrigerator for 20-30 days prior to planting. Then plant the seeds in a sunny place about 1/2" deep and water them for at least two weeks.
For Fall Planting: Direct sow seeds just below the surface. Germination will take place in the spring, after the last frost. When the seedlings appear, thin to the strongest plant.
Please note: seedlings usually do not survive transplanting, since they resent any disturbance of their roots.
